Single Belt Dryer
Intro
Short Description
The belt dryer manufactured by Theilen Maschinenbau GmbH is a continuous convection dryer. The product to be dried is conveyed through the dryer housing on a ventilated belt, and hot air flows through it during this process. A well-ventilated product layer is a prerequisite for this.

How It Works
Belt Dryers for Efficient and Controlled Drying Processes
A uniform product feed is the foundation for an efficient and reproducible drying process. Our belt dryers are designed to reliably and uniformly dry a wide variety of materials—while ensuring high process reliability and flexible adaptability to specific product requirements.
Uniform product feeding for optimal drying results
The uniform distribution of the material to be dried on the conveyor belt is crucial for consistent drying quality. Product feeding is performed as standard via our distribution conveyor, which is located upstream of the feed section of the single-belt dryer.
Depending on the nature and requirements of the material to be dried, the product feeding system can be supplemented with additional components. A leveling grate or a rotating, height-adjustable product leveler ensures a defined and uniform product layer height. This creates optimal conditions for a controlled and uniform drying process.
Individually controllable drying in separate drying chambers
The continuous-feed dryer is divided into several drying chambers. Each drying chamber has its own recirculation fan that directs the drying air precisely through the product.
Depending on the model, the airflow can be directed from top to bottom or from bottom to top. The individual drying zones can be configured according to the respective process requirements and allow for precise adjustment of the drying conditions to the product.
This results in a controlled drying process that can be tailored to the specific properties of the material being dried and the desired final moisture content.
Benefits
Technically and economically
Gentle drying and precise process control
A key advantage of drying with a single-belt dryer is the particularly gentle handling of the product. During the drying process, the material to be dried generally remains largely stationary on the conveyor belt. This eliminates the need for strong turbulence or mechanical stress. This helps preserve the product’s structure and makes the single-belt dryer particularly suitable for sensitive materials.
Robust stainless steel construction
Our single-belt dryers are manufactured primarily from high-quality stainless steel. The robust construction is designed for long-lasting and reliable operation and offers high resistance to the thermal and mechanical stresses encountered during the drying process.
Precise control for individual process requirements
Our single-belt dryers can be equipped with high-performance electronic control and regulation systems. This allows the relevant process parameters to be precisely adjusted to the specific properties of the material being dried and the desired drying conditions.
Depending on the requirements, the following parameters, among others, can be controlled:
- Residence time of the product
- Temperature of the drying air
- Humidity of the drying air
- Air velocity through the product
The precise adjustment of these parameters enables reproducible process control and creates the conditions for consistent drying results.
Variants
Options and Variants
Depending on the application, you can choose from the following models of single-belt dryers:
- Compact design, suitable for small production runs, and ready for use upon delivery.
- Modular design, for large production volumes; final assembly at the customer's site to form a single unit.
- Large-scale modular systems with product transfer stations and multiple drying sections. See Multi-Stage Dryer.
- CIP cleaning, designed for high-pressure cleaning, fully welded base pan, fully welded interior.
- High-temperature dryer up to 650 °C, designed as a belt calciner.
- Low-temperature drying, including in a closed-loop air circulation system, for gentle drying of sensitive products and to prevent emissions.
- Drying cells can be grouped into drying zones. Drying cells or drying zones can be controlled individually, thereby ensuring optimal temperature and air conditions.
- Heating can be provided by steam (indirectly via steam heating coils), external air heaters (with gas or oil burners), thermal oil, hot water, or electric heating coils, as well as by direct gas firing.
- Depending on the product, the conveyor belt of the single-belt dryer can be designed as a wire mesh belt or as a perforated plate belt with chain guidance.
- Re-moistening of sensitive dried products is possible, e.g., tobacco
- To reduce material buildup, the conveyor belt can be coated with PTFE or a PFAS-free coating.
- Enclosed cooling zones and open cooling sections can be integrated immediately after the drying cells to cool the product for further processing.
- The plant control system can be implemented using systems from all major manufacturers to meet customer preferences.
- Integration with a production control system is possible because our plant control system offers the appropriate interfaces.
You can count on that
