Impact Jet Belt Dryer
Intro
Short Description
The impact-jet belt dryer manufactured by Theilen Maschinenbau GmbH is used wherever very fast and uniform drying of flat goods is required.

How It Works
Impact Jet Belt Dryer for Fast and Efficient Drying
The impact jet belt dryer differs fundamentally from our conventional belt dryers, in which the drying air flows through a bed of bulk material. With impingement drying, the drying air is directed at high velocity through specially arranged nozzles perpendicularly onto the closed product surface.
Intensive Heat and Mass Transfer
When the drying air impinges on the product surface, the laminar boundary layer of moist air that forms there is deliberately disrupted. This significantly intensifies heat and mass transfer between the drying air and the product.
Particularly for flat or sheet-like products, this enables high drying performance and can significantly reduce the required drying time compared with purely convective drying processes.
Uniform Drying Profile Across the Entire Belt Width
Our impingement belt dryers are equipped with slot nozzles extending across the entire belt width. The targeted arrangement of the nozzles ensures uniform airflow across the product surface, resulting in a highly homogeneous drying profile.
The product is conveyed through the dryer housing on an air-permeable conveyor belt. The belt speed can be precisely adjusted, allowing the residence time to be tailored to the specific product and the desired degree of drying.
Individually Controllable Drying Zones
The systems are divided into several drying zones. The temperature and air jet velocity can be controlled independently in each individual zone.
This allows the drying process to be specifically adapted to the drying profile over the entire length of the dryer. Different process conditions within the individual zones enable precise and reproducible drying.
Flexible Integration into Existing Production Lines
For reliable integration into upstream and downstream processes, product feeding and product discharge can be implemented using specially designed systems developed in-house.
This allows the impingement belt dryer to be flexibly integrated into existing production and conveying systems and optimally adapted to the specific requirements of the overall plant.
Benefits
Technically and economically
High Drying Capacity with a Compact Design
The impact jet belt dryer is characterized by high drying capacity while requiring a comparatively small footprint. By directing the drying air intensively onto the product surface, a high evaporation rate can be achieved, particularly for flat or sheet-like products.
Uniform Residual Moisture Across the Entire Product Width
The precisely controlled drying air ensures uniform airflow across the product surface over the entire belt width. This creates homogeneous drying conditions even at high throughput rates and helps achieve the most uniform possible residual moisture across the entire product width.
Secure Product Guidance with a Hold-Down Belt
Lightweight and flat products can be securely held in place on the conveyor belt during the drying process by means of a hold-down belt. This prevents the product from shifting or becoming undesirably deformed.
The hold-down belt therefore ensures controlled product guidance even at high air velocities and contributes to a stable and reproducible drying process.
Robust Stainless Steel Construction
Our impingement belt dryers are largely manufactured from high-quality stainless steel. The robust construction is designed for long-lasting and reliable operation and provides excellent resistance to the thermal, mechanical, and product-specific stresses encountered during the drying process.
Precise Control and Process Monitoring
Our impingement belt dryers can be equipped with high-performance electronic control and regulation systems. This allows the relevant process parameters to be adjusted quickly and precisely to the specific product characteristics and drying requirements.
Depending on the system configuration, the following parameters can be controlled:
- Product residence time
- Drying air temperature
- Drying air humidity
- Air jet velocity
Continuous real-time process monitoring enables precise control of the relevant operating parameters. Deviations can be detected at an early stage, allowing process parameters to be adjusted accordingly.
This helps ensure reproducible drying results and consistently high product quality. At the same time, demand-based control of the drying parameters enables energy-efficient operation of the system.
Variants
Options and Variants
Depending on the application, you can choose from different models of impact-jet belt dryers. Optional features are also available:
- The required drying area can be distributed across multiple levels to save on overall length.
- Heating can be provided by steam (indirectly via steam heating coils), external air heaters (with gas or oil burners), thermal oil, hot water, or electric heating coils.
- Depending on the product, the conveyor belt of the impact-jet belt dryer can be designed as a wire mesh belt with different load capacities.
- Our in-house upstream and downstream conveyor systems ensure reliable product feeding and discharge. Available as inclined conveyor belts with switches or as a particularly space-saving lift table system.
- The plant control system can be implemented using systems from all major manufacturers to meet customer preferences.
- Integration with a production control system is possible because our plant control system provides the necessary interfaces.
- Special model for the production of flat food products, such as sheet gelatin
You can count on that
